Western Digital has announced new storage drive in its G-Technology series - 'G-Drive USB-C'. The company says that the new drive has been developed keeping "creative enthusiasts" in mind and features high-capacity storage and USB Type-C connectivity, which allows it to charge the latest range of USB Type-C equipped laptops, including the popular MacBook series.

The MacBook has only one USB Type-C port, thus, with the WD G-Drive USB-C drive, users will be able to use external storage while also charging their machine. When used with the 2016 MacBook Pro laptops, which have more than one USB-C port, users will be able to keep ports free for other purposes.

The WD G-Drive USB-C drive will be made available for purchase in the US this quarter itself, in 10TB, 8TB and 4TB capacities, at a price of $449.95 (roughly Rs. 29,100), $349.95 (roughly Rs. 22,600), and $199.95 (roughly Rs. 12,900), respectively from g-technology.com. The drive will be available this quarter through G-Technology resellers around the world, the company said in its release.

The new storage drive from the company features USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface with USB-C connector for high-speed performance, the company said. Notably, the drive ships with a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable to allow for compatibility with traditional systems with a USB Type-A connector. The drive offers transfer rates of up to 195Mbps and provides up to 45 watts of charging capability through its USB-C port.

"The addition of the G-DRIVE USB-C external drive provides tech enthusiasts a single-cable high capacity, high quality storage solution that meets their individual creative needs," Mike Williams, vice president of Advanced Technologies at Western Digital, was quoted as saying in the release.

The drive comes with support for Time Machine software to allow users to back up their files. The pre-orders for the product are already open on company's website.
