Sony India has said that it aims to sell 6.5 lakh units of VAIO laptops and notebooks in the current financial year. It sold 5 lakh units of VAIO in the last fiscal.
Sony will also consolidate its distribution network by adding 500 more channel counters, taking the total count to 4,500 in the current fiscal, Sony India's IT and Mobiles Head Sachin Thapar told reporters.
"I am very proud of VAIO's exceptional growth in Indian market and we hope to continue the momentum by further strengthening our business pillars of strong product line-up, robust distribution network and innovative marketing. We aim to sell 6.5 lakh units in this fiscal," Thapar said.
The company plans to increase distribution network to 4,500 outlets and open 15 more VAIO Flagship stores in FY13, taking the total number to 50, he added. "The contribution of VAIO is also expected to rise from 20 per cent to 25 percent to the overall sales of Sony India by FY13" he said.
Sony will pump in an investment of Rs. 90 crore towards VAIO's marketing in FY13, starting with a multi-media campaign 'Spark a trend' with brand ambassador Kareena Kapoor. The new campaign is a progression of the highly successful colour campaign and elevates VAIO's design and fashion appeal, focusing especially on the accent lines that make the new E14A series extremely unique, Thapar explained.
