Seagate India on Monday announced the launch of the "world's thinnest 2TB mobile hard drive" in the country - the Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim.

The Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim hard drive is available in a 1TB variant as well. Both variants are exclusively listed on Amazon India in Gold and Platinum metallic colours, with the 1TB variant priced at Rs. 5,699, and the 2TB variant priced at Rs. 8,399.

The company says the Backup Plus Ultra Slim HDD also comes with 200GB of free Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage with a two-year subscription, apart from Lyve software - which according to Seagate helps organise media on the hard drive and make it accessible on any device via the cloud. The hard drive also includes Seagate Dashboard software for easy scheduled backups.

The Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim is a 2.5-inch HDD that is just 9.6mm thin - the company says this makes it 50 percent thinner than other 2TB drives on the market.

Speaking on the launch, Tim Bucher, vice president for Seagate's Consumer Group, said, "The launch of the Backup Plus Ultra Slim builds on Seagate's rich history of award-winning innovation to give users even more capacity in an incredibly small form factor. Based on our breakthrough ultra-mobile hard drive technology, this new storage solution gives them a better way to manage the increase in both data volumes and number of devices."
