Seagate has unveiled 660 SSD, its first solid-state drive (SSD) for consumers, while also announcing its next-generation enterprise SSDs, Seagate 600 Pro SSD and the Seagate 1200 SSD.
Seagate 600 SSD is a laptop-friendly drive that offers nearly four times faster boot times and two times faster application load times when compared with a standard hard drive. The Seagate 600 SSD is available in multiple z-heights including a 5mm-high drive making it ideal for use in most ultra-thin devices. The drive features up to 480GB of capacity and incorporates a 6Gbps SATA interface.
There's no word yet on the pricing or availability details of the Seagate 600 SSD.
"We are pleased to announce these new flash memory products. With these new drives, Seagate solidifies its commitment to the flash-based storage market by delivering enterprise SSDs and server-side solutions as well as client solutions," said Gary Gentry, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate's solid state drive business.
Seagate 600 Pro, on the other hand, is an entry-level enterprise drive that aims to combine fast performance and lower power to deliver performance efficiency and IOPS/ watt value. It, too, is available in up to 480GB capacities and comes in 2.5-inch form factor with a 6Gbps SATA interface.
The Seagate 1200 SSD is designed for demanding enterprise storage and server applications with complex, write-intensive mixed workloads, such as high-performance computing and data analytics. It incorporates a dual-port 12Gbps SAS connector, while retaining backwards compatibility with 6Gbps SAS environments. The Seagate 1200 SSD is available with up to 800GB capacity and comes in either a 1.8-inch or 2.5-inch form factor.
"By adding more SSDs to our family of hard disk and solid state hybrid drives, we now have the broadest portfolio of storage products in the industry, delivering one-stop shopping for our customers and partners," Gentry added.
