Expanding its Chromebook range, Samsung has now announced the Chromebook 2 series. The South Korean giant has revealed that the new Chromebook series, which includes two models in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch configurations, will be available starting April (no exact release date).

The 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 will be available at an MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) of $319.99 (Rs. 19,900 approximately), while the 13.3-inch model will come at $399.99 (Rs. 24,900 approximately).

The Samsung Chromebook 2 series runs Google's Chrome OS, rather than Windows or Linux; much like other Chromebook siblings.

The 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 sports a HD LED display with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels, while the 13.3-inch model features a full-HD LED display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Both models feature the stitched, textured design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on their lids.

Other specifications of the 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 include a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor clocked at 1.9GHz; 4GB of DDR3L RAM; 16GB of built-in storage, and up to 8 hours of battery life. Connectivity options include one HDMI, one USB 3.0, and one USB 2.0 port, apart from a microSD multimedia card reader. The 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 will be available in Classic White and Jet Black colours.

The 13.3-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 comes with Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor clocked at 2.1GHz; 4GB of DDR3L RAM; 16GB of built-in storage, and up to 8.5 hours battery life. The new Chromebook 2 13.3-inch model includes one HDMI, one USB 3.0, and one USB 2.0 port as connectivity options, apart from a microSD multimedia card reader . The 13.3-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 will be available in Luminous Titan Gray colour variant.

According to Samsung, the Chromebook 2 series is ideal for educators and administrators seeking to adopt one-to-one learning programs. Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung's Enterprise Business Division said, "Chromebooks are particularly important in the education space - according to Futuresource, one in four devices now sold into K-12 schools in the U.S. are Chromebooks - so we've designed our latest models with students and teachers in mind, including features like rapid start times, longer battery life and easy-to-grip design."
