Dell over the weekend added 5 new laptops under its 'Latitude' series. The laptops announced by the firm are the Latitude 13 7000 2-in-1 detachable laptop; new models in the Latitude 3000 and 5000 series, and the Latitude 14 Rugged laptop.
While the Latitude 13 7000 series 2-in-1 detachable laptop will be available from mid-October this year starting $1,199 (roughly Rs. 72,200), the Latitude 3000 series laptops are already available in Asia starting $640 (roughly Rs. 38,600). Also, the firm has also mentioned the 12-inch Latitude 5000 series laptop will reach the US, Europe and Asian markets by September 25 starting $769 (roughly Rs. 46,350) The availability and pricing details of the Latitude 14 Rugged laptop have not been disclosed as of now.
The Dell Latitude 13 7000 (Seen Above) is a convertible laptop with a detachable screen of which can be used as a tablet. The device comes in three operating system variants - Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and Windows 8.1 Single Language 6-bit.
The Latitude 13 7000 features a 13.3-inch FHD IPS display and is powered by an Intel Core M processor (also available in Core M vPro) based on Broadwell architecture. The hybrid laptop can support up to 8GB of DDR3L 1600MHz SDRAM and includes an Intel HD graphics 5300 GPU for handling intense animations and graphics.
Apart from a 2-megapixel full-HD front-facing webcam, users can choose an optional 8-megapixel full-HD rear camera. The Latitude 13 7000 can also support up to 512GB of SSD storage.
Some of the connectivity features included in the laptop are Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0, optional LTE or 3G connectivity, and optional NFC. The Latitude 13 7000 measures 320x299.7x19.9mm, and has a starting weight of 1.6kg.
A 30Wh Li-Po battery powers the tablet, while the detachable keyboard includes an additional 20Wh Li-Po battery.
The Latitude 14 3000 Series (Seen Above) will be arriving in two variants based on the processors. While the device with fourth-generation Intel processor will be arriving starting September 2014, the fifth-generation Intel processor variant will hit the markets starting January 2015, details of which can be seen here.
The fourth-generation variant comes in Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processor options. The laptop also supports operating systems including Windows 7 Professional 32 or 64 bit; Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32 or64-bit (available through downgrade rights from Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit); Windows 8.1 64-bit; Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit; Windows 8.1 Single Language 64-bit, and Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS (64-bit).
The Latitude 14 3000 Series features a 14-inch HD (768x1366) anti-glare WLED-backlit display. With support for up to 4GB of DDR3L 1600MHz SDRAM, the device's graphics are taken care by Intel Integrated HD graphics 4400 or a dedicated Nvidia GeForce 830M GPU. A storage options include 500GB 7200rpm HDD or a 500GB 5400rpm hybrid drive (8GB cache). Besides an integrated 1-megapixel webcam, the Latitude 14 3000 Series also includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity. Measuring 342x245.9x22.2mm, the device weighs 1.9kg (with battery). A 4-cell 58Wh Li-Ion battery backs the laptop.
The Dell Latitude 15 3000 laptop (Seen Above) shares the same specifications as the Latitude 14 3000 laptop except the screen size, hard drive options, dimensions and the weight. The laptop will also come in with a fifth-generation Intel processor variant starting January 2015, the details of which can be seen here.
The laptop features a 15.6-inch HD (768x1366 pixels) resolution anti-glare WLED-backlit display, a 500GB 7200rpm HDD, measures 380.4x258.9x22.3mm, and weighs 2.2kg.
The Dell Latitude 14 Rugged laptop (Seen Above) comes with a choice of Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit), Windows 7 Professional (64-bit); Windows 8.1 (64-bit); Windows 7 Professional (32-bit), and Linux Ubuntu 12.04 operating systems. Processor options that come with the laptop are fourth generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors.
With a support for up to 16GB of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM, the device also comes with the choice of Intel HD Graphics 4400 (i3/i5) or Intel HD Graphics 5000 (i7) GPU, apart from a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 720M (2GB DDR3).
The Latitude 14 Rugged features a 14-inch HD (1366x768 pixels) resolution display. Also included are the storage variants for 128GB, 256GB or 512GB mobility solid state drives with an optional 500GB mSATA SED SSD or 1TB SSHD.
Besides an integrated full-HD webcam, the laptop features Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0, optional LTE, and GPS connectivity options. The laptop comes in 6-cell (65Wh) or 9-cell (97Wh) lithium-ion battery variants with an optional 6-cell (58Wh) or 9-cell (87Wh) Li-ion batteries with 3-year warranty. The Latitude 14 Rugged laptop measures 347x243x44.4mm and weighs 2.95kgs.
Not many details are known about the Dell Latitude 12 5000 Series laptop (Seen Above). However, according to Digital Trends website, the company has confirmed the laptop to feature a 12-inch screen and a 20 percent thinner profile than its previous 14-inch and 15-inch Latitude 5000 Series laptops. Also mentioned is a 4-cell battery claimed to deliver a full day's life.
Besides announcing the Latitude laptops, Dell also introduced its Chrome OS-running Chromebox (Seen Above) and Chromebox for Meetings solutions for business organisations. While the Dell Chromebox is priced at $179 (roughly Rs.10,800) and will be available starting September 26, the Dell Chromebox for meetings comes at a price tag of $999 (roughly Rs. 60,000) and will start shipping this week.
The Dell Chromebox is a cloud-based desktop alternative to the company's Chromebook laptops. Users have the option to configure the Chromebox with either an Intel Celeron or a Core i3 processor. However, the Chromebox for Meetings is a much powerful version of the Chromebox that runs on Intel Core i7 processor and is basically made for video conferencing tasks. It also features a full-HD webcam, a speakerphone and a remote control. The device also gives a 4K Ultra HD resolution display output to dual-monitors. Both the Chromebox models feature 16GB SSD storage, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, four USB 3.0 ports, DisplayPort, and SD Card slot.
