Acer has launched the Chromebase desktop, what it calls the industry's "first all-in-one Chrome OS desktop with touch display." While the price of the Acer Chromebase is not yet known, the touch-enabled Chrome OS-based all-in-one (AIO) PC is said to hit shelves sometime in Q2 of this year. Also, all the specifications of the device have not been disclosed.

With the limited information provided, the Acer Chromebase features a 21.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) resolution IPS display touchscreen, and is powered by Nvidia's Tegra K1 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. More configuration options are expected to be revealed closer to launch.

While details on the device's inbuilt storage are not yet known, Acer will be offering 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage for 2 years. Connectivity options of the Chromebase include USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0, and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. An HD webcam is also included with integrated 3W stereo speakers.

Acer adds that its Chromebase boots up in 10 seconds and "has multiple layers of security built-in with automatic system updates." The firm last month launched an upgraded version of its education-focused Chromebook C910. The Acer Chromebook C910 will be available at a suggested retail price of $499.99 (approximately Rs. 31,200), which is $200 higher than the previous version launched in January.

Google too on Wednesday announced the launch and availability of a variety of new low-cost devices running its Chrome OS platform, including traditional Chromebooks, a touch-enabled 2-in-1, and an ultra-compact HDMI stick that can be plugged into any display.
