Snapdeal kicked off its second big sale in as many months on Tuesday. Under Snapdeal Savings Day, the marketplace is offering discounts on products like iPhone 5s and Google Nexus 5, amongst others. While the last big sale by Snapdeal coincided with Flipkart's Big Billion Day offer, on Tuesday, the spotlight is firmly on Snapdeal.
Yes, rival Amazon is holding its own 11.11 Amazon Appiness Day sales, but, as the name suggests, the deals are only visible via its apps, making it a much more low-key affair. Snapdeal, on the other hand, seems to be struggling with the attention, with users reporting an inability to complete purchases, amongst various other complaints.
It's worth remembering that Flipkart had suffered a similar fate last month, on the day both Snapdeal and Flipkart claimed to have topped Rs. 600 crores in GMV. Flipkart users on the day had complained about price manipulation, products not being available in enough quantities, and an inability to complete transactions after adding products to cart. While complaints about Snapdeal on the day were fewer, one look at social media on Tuesday makes you wonder if Snapdeal has been caught unawares this time, or if these problems existed last month as well, but were drowned out in the outrage against Flipkart's higher profile sale.
"#SnapdealSavingsDay flop show again like @Flipkart. Guys pls ensure u have adequate load capacity on servers before u try these gimmicks," tweeted one user.
"if flipkart's billion day was a flopshow, Then @snapdeal #SnapdealSavingsDay day be called as Utter Nonsense," said another.
Another user chose to comment on Snapdeal's advertising strategy last time round, when it had claimed Flipkart's Big Billion Day was just another day for Snapdeal. "I thought these 'special' days didn't matter to @snapdeal because such things are #normal for them #SnapdealSavingsDay @Flipkart".
Of course, despite all this, people are still looking forward to seeing what Snapdeal has to offer, should they get their hands on the one deal they've been waiting for. This tweet summed it up: "No matter how much everyone complains about snapdeal, they will still be checking the website on #SnapdealSavingsDay."
