Following in the footsteps of Amazon India and Flipkart, online retailer Snapdeal has launched its version of guaranteed same-day shipping, called 'Express Delivery'. The service will initially only be available in Delhi-NCR (specifically Delhi and Gurgaon), but will soon be expanded to cities such as Bangalore and Mumbai.
Snapdeal's Express Delivery service seems to be a little more limited than what is offered by its counterparts, with the service only available on select products, which will be marked prominently on the website. However, unlike its counterparts, the
Snapdeal Express Delivery service is free (for now) and offers same day delivery, compared to next-day delivery offered by the likes of Flipkart and Amazon.
Flipkart's
'In-a-day guarantee' one-day shipping service is chargeable at Rs. 90 per item.
Flipkart introduced the service
in the second week of December, and as of date it is available in seven cities across the country. Orders placed before 6PM qualify for delivery the next business day.
Amazon India, the Indian arm of the largest online retailer in the world, had started its
'guaranteed one-day delivery' service for six cities in
the first week of December, charging Rs. 99 per order. Amazon's cut-off for next-day delivery is midnight in Mumbai and Pune, and 3PM in other cities.
Introducing the service, Saurabh Goyal, VP- Supply Chain Operations at Snapdeal, said, "With the increasing competition in e-commerce space, delivery has become an essential factor after price. Keeping up with our company motto of providing the widest assortment of goods and the best services we have managed to evolve our supply chain system to such an extent that we can now offer this service with ease."
