Snapdeal, Amazon India Put Flash Sales Back in Focus

Snapdeal and Amazon India kicked off their day-long shopping festivals on Tuesday, putting the focus back on controversial flash sales. Snapdeal Savings Day deals are available to people visiting the popular e-commerce store via desktop, mobile, or apps, just as you'd expect. On the other hand, Amazon, in a bid to promote the use of its apps, is celebrating Amazon Appiness Day, wherein deals are visible only to people who are browsing the store via one of Amazon's apps.

While the deals on Tuesday are unlikely to be as good as ones we saw on October 6 when both Flipkart and Snapdeal celebrated their big shopping day of the year, you may still be able to score a bargain or few.

November 11 (11.11) or Singles Day (four 1s or singles) is a big shopping day in China, and Indian retailers Snapdeal and Amazon are keen to cash-in on the hype. Under Snapdeal Savings Day, the retailer is offering 16GB iPhone 5s 16GB at Rs. 31,499 (MRP Rs. 53,500), Google Nexus 5 at Rs. 20,999 (MRP Rs. 29,999), and a Canon DSLR camera worth Rs. 31,995 at nearly half the price. Other products like Micromax HD TV are also up for grabs at discounted prices.

Snapdeal is offering other goodies like 5 percent cashback to HDFC card holders, 10 percent cashback to Standard Chartered card holders, and Rs. 50 as cashback every time you shop through the Snapdeal app.

With Amazon Appiness Day, customers who make a purchase using one of Amazon's apps stand a chance to win 11 months of free shopping worth Rs. 11,000 per month. Amazon is also offering 10 percent extra to HDFC card holders and a FreeCharge cashback worth Rs. 111 (on a minimum Rs. 100 recharge from FreeCharge) to anyone who signs in to the Amazon India mobile apps between 7th November and 11th November.

Last month, Snapdeal claimed to have clocked sales of Rs. 1 crore per minute on October 6, while rival Flipkart, which seems to be sitting out this round of sales, claimed similar numbers thanks to the Flipkart Big Billion Day sale.
