The real-time traffic information is being called by MapmyIndia to be a 'green initiative will save both time and fuel'. The service will initially only be available for Delhi (NCR) and Mumbai.
The new social navigation features on the MapmyIndia portal include the ability to add/ edit a place, write reviews, and maintain private atlases. The features will allow sharing with popular social media sites like Explore, and Facebook.
MapmyIndia is also touting the new 'flat UI', which apparently enables speedy access, seamless zooming in and out of the maps, better categorisation allowing for faster location of POIs, improved route customization with drag and drop direction markers, feature has been provided.
The company says bloggers and developers will also be benefited by the changes to the MapmyIndia portal, which now brings easier embedding of maps, driving directions and search nearby. The maps.mapmyindia.com portal is said to provide a good experience for Android, iOS, Windows, Windows 8 and HTML5 browsers.
Speaking on the launch, Rakesh Verma, Managing Director, MapmyIndia, said, "Maps.mapmyIndia.com has been a benchmark for best navigable maps of India on the internet. And we are making it even better. This is an unprecedented revamp in scale and quality. We have always challenged new frontiers to make available the best products and apps to our users. The new version is strongly focused on enhancing the user experience. We have added many social, utility and convenience features to the maps. I am sure that these will make the portal even more popular and benefit millions across India."
