Kim Dotcom, the founder of Mega, will be soon launching a 'fully encrypted' browser-based video calling service.

The entrepreneur also poked fun at Microsoft's popular VoIP service, Skype, as he tweeted on Monday, "Mega will soon release a fully encrypted and browser based video call & chat service including high-speed file transfers. Bye bye Skype :-)."

Dotcom on Monday also tweeted that "No US based online service provider can be trusted with your data." He added that, "Skype has no choice. They must provide the US Government with backdoors."

While no other details are known for the service, Dotcom did mention the hashtag #MegaChat, which may very well just be the name of the secure video-calling service. We last saw Dotcom mentioning in February last year that his file sharing company, Mega, will expand into emails, chats, voice, video and mobile.

As per VentureBeat, the chat service by Dotcom was supposed to arrive early this year. The reason for delay however is not known. The service was also said to let users send files as an attachment with the messages. The firm also promised voice calls. A glimpse of the video chatting service can be seen in the YouTube video (starting 1:00:10) below being used by Julian Assange and Edward Snowden to address a rally in Auckland in September this year.

Dotcom few days ago became a favourite of PlayStation and Xbox Live gamers as he struck a deal with Lizard Squad, the group which claimed to have hacked both the gaming services on the day of Christmas. The founder of Mega offered Lizard Squad 3,000 premium Mega Lifetime vouchers for stopping the attack.
