Online and phone-based business directory service JustDial has launched a new food ordering service, allowing users to order food online from restaurants listed on the site and get it delivered.
The development was first
reported by Techcircle.in. The online food ordering service can be accessed through the URL,
justdial.com/Online-Food-Ordering-Service. It is available in 16 cities including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Howrah, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Noida, Pune and Thane, at the time of writing of this post.
Through the service, users will be able to browse the restaurant's menu and place their order online. Food is delivered to the address provided by the user at the time and date selected by the user. Users can place orders up to six days in advance. The confirmation of the order is sent to the customers on their mobile number and email ID, and payment is collected at the time of the delivery in cash.
JustDial categorically mentions that it doesn't charge anything over and above the restaurants' usual food prices. The website also keeps a record of the users' previous orders and they can choose to repeat any of their previous orders.
It's worth pointing out that the service is only available for select restaurants but some of these places are really small local take-away joints which indicates that JustDial has good reach. Pizza delivery chains such as Domino's and Pizza Hut in Delhi, are not covered, at this point in time. However, we observed that the site offers food menus even for restaurants that are not covered under its food ordering service. We do wish it also starts accepting credit cards and other modes of payment.
Following the move, JustDial will now compete with the likes of
Foodpanda and
JustEat, that offer online food ordering services.
It's not clear if JustDial's food ordering service is powered by another third-party provider. It's worth mentioning that JustDial had previously inked a tie-up with Bookurtable.com, a restaurant reservation and food ordering service, in September 2011.
