India Post Opens Exclusive Counters for eBay Sellers

"The counter for eBay sellers at Gurgaon and Faridabad business post center will be exclusive for them to send their products through speed post, registered post or any other service they wish to opt for in both the cities," India Post Master General Gurgaon and Faridabad Umesh Verma said in a statement.

Starting Thursday, eBay sellers can dispatch both domestic and international parcels from eBay's special counters at Udyog Vihar Phase-V in Gurgaon and NIT Faridabad Post Office, eBay said in a statement.

In late December, Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said India Post would be launching its payment bank by March 2017.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a week-long celebration of Good Governance Week organized by department of electronics and information technology.

Earlier the minister said Japanese company Hitachi is interested in partnering with the postal department for payment bank solutions.

The Reserve Bank of India granted in-principle approval to 11 applicants in August to set up payment banks. According to the apex bank's guidelines, payments banks would offer a limited range of products such as demand deposits and remittances.
