India Funding Roundup: Ezetap, Appvigil, Zocalo, Zo Rooms, Humble Egg, NightStay

Ezetap
Ezetap a Bengaluru-based startup raised $25 million (roughly Rs. 150 crores) in its Series C, led by Social+Capital, Horizons Ventures, Capricorn Investment Group, Helion Advisors, and Berggruen Holdings. Social+Capital founder Chamath Palihapitiya will become Chairman of Board - the first time the former Facebook executive has taken on this role with a portfolio company outside the United States.

Founded in 2011, EZTap launched a a Square-like smartphone-based payments service in 2013, and now has deployed 60,000 new points of sale across India in under 30 months, and processes $1 million transactions per day. State Bank of India will be deploying over 500,000 units of EZTap's solution over five years. Other customers include Ola, RedBus, Myntra, BookMyShow, BigBasket, Reliance Mutual Fund, and Bajaj FinServ. The startup saw early investments from PayPal founder Peter Thiel and credit card giant American Express.

Appvigil
Mumbai-based Wegilant, the maker of Appvigil cloud-based security scanner for Android developers and consumers, has secured $500,000 in funding from Ravi Gururaj, Chair Nasscom Product Council; Gaurav Sharma, Director Yahoo Inc, and Viswanath Ramachandran, Ex-Gupshup CTO. Founded in 2011 by Toshendra Sharma, the startup was incubated at IIT Bombay's SINE (Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship). Its flagship offering, AppVigil, provides recommendations to developers based on vulnerabilities found.

Zocalo
Rental accommodation finder Zocalo, a Mumbai-based online platform for broker-free rented accommodations, raised an undisclosed sum from Sachin Bhatia, co-founder, MakeMyTrip and TrulyMadly; Rajesh Sawhney, Founder, GSF Accelerator & InnerChef; Mahesh Parasuraman, Ex-MD, The Carlyle Group; Advantedge Incubators Pvt Ltd, Director, Motherson Sumi Group, Udaan Angels, and Dheeraj Jain, partner with a prominent UK-based hedge fund amongst others.

The platform has an inventory in excess of 75,000 paying guest and hostel beds and more than 10,000 accommodation listings, adding 6,000 new listings every month, the company said.

"Zocalo has the team, vision and execution capability to create a compelling new user experience in the fast growing PG & hostels, shared and rental apartments", says Rajesh Sawhney.

Zo Rooms
Branded budget rooms chain Zo Rooms has raised $30 million (roughly Rs. 192 crores) from existing investors, Tiger Global Management and Orios Venture Partners, ET reported.

Founded in 2014, the company follows the asset light model similar to Oyo rooms, which raised $100 million (Rs 641 crore) in fresh financing from Japan's SoftBank earlier this week.

Klozee
Humble Egg, which runs online designer wear rental platform Klozee, has raised an undisclosed sum of funding from Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal-backed TracxnLabs and angel investors, Livemint reported

Founded this year by IITans Pratik Moona, Aman Haji, and Prashant Jain, Klozee refers to itself as a "fashion technology company with a mission to democratise luxury apparel"

NightStay
NightStay, a last minute app for booking of luxury hotels has raised $500,000 (roughly Rs. 3.1 crores) in seed funding led by Vivek Bihani of Bedrock Venture Management Pvt. Ltd. Rajesh Sawhney, founder of GSF, and Shailesh Vikram Singh, executive director of SeedFund, also participated in the funding round. The service is available in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, and the company plans to expand into 20 cities by the year-end. The app is currently only available on Android, an iOS version is expected to be released soon.

WizRocket
Wizrocket, a user analytics and targeting tool has secured $8 million (roughly Rs. 51 crores) new funding round led by Sequoia India and Accel Partners. The tool enables web businesses to track and notify users across platforms, and do real-time people analytics, and assess campaign effectiveness. Plans start from free, and range from $99 to $299 per month, and is used by Snapdeal, BookMyShow, Zovi, and Disqus. Founded by Anand Jain, Sunil Thomas, and Suresh Kondamudi, the Mumbai-based company had raised a $1.6 million seed round (roughly Rs. 10 crores) by Accel Partners.
