Google launched an exciting new feature for Search on Thursday. Google Search will now show selfie-style videos, from certain celebrities, for answers to questions that users popularly search for about them. These celebrities will be a mix of rising stars and well-established personalities.

In a blog post, Google said that it had started piloting the feature with a few celebrities, namely, Priyanka Chopra, Will Ferrell, Tracee Ellis Ross, Gina Rodriguez, Kenan Thompson, Allison Williams, Nick Jonas, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Seth MacFarlane, Jonathan Yeo, and Dominique Ansel. The new feature aims to give a personalized touch to Google Search, with Priyanka Chopra for example giving the answer to how many languages she can speak and users finally finding out whether Will Ferrell can really play the drums or not.

The Mountain View giant also said that a lot more celebrities and answers would be added to the feature in the coming days, making it accessible to a bigger audience with a wide variety of personalities to choose from. The videos are being tested in the US initially. These videos will remain self-recorded to maintain the originality of the concept.

"Today's announcement gives you a snapshot (or should we say selfie-shot) of what's to come, but in the next few months, you may see more videos as you search for your favourite personalities. For now, pick up your phone to search for one of the people mentioned above-you just might find a surprise video answer waiting for you," the blog post added.

This feature seems to have taken inspiration from Wired's ongoing series on YouTube where celebrities answer the most Googled questions about them. These selfie-style videos will be made available only on mobile Search and not on desktop or any other Web embeds.
