Google previewed its revamped Google Maps at the I/O 2013; however after testing the new features for almost a year the Mountain View giant has now made the new Google Maps official for desktops.

Google announced the news via Google Maps official blog post and also noted that the new Google Maps will be rolling out to users over the next few weeks.

Brian McClendon, VP of Google Maps said on the blog post, "With any product redesign, there may be bumps along the road. We're hoping that you're as excited as we are to navigate uncharted territory in pursuit of the perfect map."

With the rollout of the new Google Maps, users can now click anywhere on the map, which will focus the map and show users related details about the places and the best ways to get there.

Next, users can now compare multiple modes of transportation on the map to find the best way to a place and Google has also integrated the Google Earth directly into the map. Further, the Google Maps Engine will now allow users to create and publish custom maps to share.

The blog post said, "As you search the map, star places you like and leave reviews, the map starts to adapt and can suggest things like restaurants you might enjoy or the quickest way home. In other words, the more you use the new Google Maps, the more helpful it becomes."

Earlier on Thursday, Google announced the dates for its annual developers' conference, I/O. Google's Sundar Pichai revealed that Google I/O 2014 is scheduled for June 25 to 26, and the Mountain View giant would be hosting the event again at Moscone West in San Francisco, like 2013.
