To celebrate the first anniversary of its eBooks store, Indian e-commerce giant, Flipkart, is offering more than 1,00,000 ebooks at a special pricing of Rs. 99 or less.

Ebooks across different categories including Best Sellers, Literature & Fiction, Biographies, History & Politics, Business, Self Help, Religion & Spirituality, Science & Technology, Health & Fitness, Teens and sports & Games, are available for purchase, as part of the offer. Ebooks are available at a price as low as Rs. 9, with bestsellers such as Amish Tripathi's Naga series, Stephen Hawking's The Theory of Everything and John Grisham's suspense thrillers. Tripathi's Immortals of Meluha is available at a price of Rs. 72 against its original price of Rs. 195. Similarly, The Theory of Everything is available at a 43 percent discount at Rs. 99.

The ebooks can be purchased online, and synced and downloaded to different devices (six at a time) through Flipkart's web and native apps.

Flipkart had introduced ebooks in November 2012 with an Android app. It had extended the service to other platforms with the launch of its eBooks app on iOS, and Windows Phone in addition to a Web interface for the service in August 2013.

Flipkart had also inked a tie-up with Nokia under which app comes pre-installed on select Nokia Lumia devices.

The Android, Windows Phone and web apps for Flipkart eBooks allows users to purchase books from within the app. The iOS app doesn't include the feature most likely due to Apple's policy of charging a 30 percent cut on every purchase.

Flipkart competes with Amazon, Google and Kobo in the Indian market. While Amazon launched the Kindle store and its basic ebook reader in August 2012, Google introduced the Google Play Books service in February, this year. Kobo had launched its digital reading platform, including its E-Ink and tablets; and apps for iOS, Android, Microsoft, and BlackBerry mobile platforms, in India, in October.
