After the financial success of last year's Big Billion Day sale, Flipkart is back with another big bang sale. Spread over three days, the Flipkart Big App Shopping Days sale kicked off on Monday and while the discounts on offer may not seem as crazy as ones seen last year, there's still enough of an incentive to download the Flipkart app.
That's because the Flipkart Big App Shopping Days sale discounts are available only via the Flipkart app for Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone, and not via the Flipkart website. This hasn't stopped Flipkart from promoting the discounts heavily to its website users - they are being asked to download the app if they actually want to make use of the offers.
Flipkart and rival Snapdeal have been promoting their apps in a big way, having recently stopped displaying content on their mobile website to Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone users and forcing them to download or launch the app instead. The Big App Shopping Days is the latest move by Flipkart to drive up app installs and usage.
The focus in shifting users towards apps is understandable, as app installs promise a higher mindshare and let the stores target users with notifications. Customers are also more likely to stay logged in to the app, thus more likely to make impulse purchases via the app, especially due to the prevalence of cash-on-delivery and RBI's indication it may relax the OTP requirement, making the purchase process completely seamless.
As for the deals on offer in Flipkart's Big App Shopping Days sale, the highlights include Rs. 2,000 off on the Moto G (Gen 2), Rs. 1,500 on the 16GB Asus Zenfone 5, discounts on the Lenovo Vibe X2 and Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, plus a whole lot more.
