Over the years gifs have really come into their own as Internet connections have improved, and instead of laggy, blurry images that barely conveyed meaning, gif-images have become a great (and often funny) way to share a quick update.
As a part of its annual search trends results, which shows what people around the world are looking for (Robin Williams and Flappy Bird, if you're wondering) Google has also included a list of the top 10 searches for gif images in the US.

While some of it is touching, in an understandable way - number 7 is Robin Williams, caused by people who wanted to post tributes to the actor after his death in August - but Frozen, in 2nd place proves that a big chunk of Internet users are kids who could not get enough of their favourite new Disney film. Here is the rest of the top 10:
10. Vince McMahon
The WWE boss gets searched for more than his wrestlers, and it's easy to see why! The man is hilarious, as the clip below proves.
9. Dancing Groot
Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the best films of 2014 - it has comedy, action, drama, and suspense, but there's one moment from the end of the movie that is particularly memorable. So it's no surprise that so many people wanted to look at this particular scene again.
8. Ashley Wagner
Figure skater Ashley Wagner is 2014's Kayla Maroney, and watching her best not-impressed looks when the judges were awarding her scores is hilarious.
7. Robin Williams
The actor's death came unexpectedly, and a lot of people were posting tributes or just wanted to view these clips.
6. Shmoney dance
Each year needs a stupid dance that goes viral before you can call it done, and we've seen worse. No one wanted the Shmoney dance to go viral (except for everyone who searched for the gif obviously) but it's still better than Soulja Boy's Crank That, or, if you remember those dark days, the Macarena.
5. Godzilla
Is there any reason why this should not be on a list of most searched gifs? Godzilla is awesome. Watching Godzilla stomp around destroying things is awesome. And the 2014 film never happened. Enjoy some classic, classy Godzilla instead:
4. Madden
Madden has been a staple of the "sports games" genre for years now, and these games look great. So much so that publisher EA even released a "Giferator" where you can create your own gifs from the games graphics. It's a really cool site, and one you should check out.
3. Luis Suarez
He bites me. He bites me not. Luis Suarez may be a footballer, but he's most famous for his, shall we say eating habits?
2. Frozen
Let it go kids, really, we know you love the film but there is a limit on how much you should be searching for it. And parents? Stop letting your kids search for things, the Internet is a scary place.
1. Miguel Hererra
The footballer turned manager is not afraid to let his feelings show, as the amazing lightning gif below proves. Obviously people were searching for this, it's too awesome not to look for.
