Our weekly column looks at men and women from different walks of life, and the technology they love and rely on every day. This week, we spoke to Ravitej Yadalam, the CEO and founder of Pennyful Online, an online-coupons site. While he's a self-confessed Apple fan, he uses a Samsung phone and is one of the people supporting the so-called "flagship killer", the OnePlus One.
Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
Ravitej Yadalam: As of now, the MacBook Pro is my 'weapon of choice' when it comes to the computing segment. And since I'm on my laptop most of the time, I use the Roost laptop stand to bring my laptop screen to eye level, which helps to reduce the strain to my neck and shoulders.
I'm also currently using the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, but I have already ordered the OnePlus One. and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I also use the iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular to work on the move, and the Apple TV helps me with my entertainment needs.
What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Ravitej Yadalam: There are more than three apps which I use regularly, but if I had to list out the top three, LastPass would be the first on that list. I use LastPass on both my browser, as well as on the mobile. As I use different accounts, a tool like LastPass helps me by remembering my passwords and generating secure ones. It also autofills forms. Now, I don't have to remember my passwords at all!
The second would be Dropbox for the Mac and Android, which helps me store and access all my files, anywhere and anytime. The final app on my list would have to be Grooveshark, which gives me easy access to my music, even on the go.
What is one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
Ravitej Yadalam: If there was one gadget I would never leave home without, it would have to be the Bose QuietComfort 20i acoustic noise cancelling headphones.
What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
Ravitej Yadalam: Intelligent gadgets that interact with you and make everything just a little better, would fall under my list of dream gadgets anyday. Take for instance, the Jibo, "The World's First Family Robot". It is next-gen technology with a friendly face!
My dream technology setup would also have to include Google Glass. And let's not forget the Oculus Rift which will add in an all new level of immersion in video gaming. And I don't think any dream technology setup would be complete without the Ivee, which enables you to control all your connected devices with speech technology.
And if cars count, then I would have to undoubtedly add the Tesla Model X to the list.
How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Ravitej Yadalam: Mobile and cloud technology has transformed most aspects of daily life, be it personal or professional. Today, you can access almost anything right from your mobile phone and that empowers you to do so much more on the go. And with all of your data and information backed up centrally on the cloud, you no longer have to depend on any single device. Technology has also made communication and collaboration, even across geographies, extremely fast and convenient. Of course, the down side is that you are never really off the grid - there's no such thing as a Sunday anymore!
