Personally Tech is our weekly look at the apps and gadgets that people from different walks of life love and use regularly. This week, we spoke to Aasheesh Mediratta, CEO, Fashionandyou.com. Mediratta has seen his usage gradually shift from a Nokia feature phone to a BlackBerry and now an iPhone, and he says that the next shift that he's looking forward to is augmented reality - bringing the world face to face. Read on to know more about his favourite apps and gadgets, and his technology setup:
Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
Mediratta: The gadgets I use every day at office and home, are my Apple iPhone 6 and Dell Vostro laptop. I really love my Sony Bravia 55" Ultra HD TV - it is an amazing amalgamation of entertainment, networking and knowledge with in-built apps like Skype/ YouTube and TED and media player. While travelling, I need my iPad Air, Nikon D90 camera, and Beats by Dre headphones.
What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Mediratta: I use a lot of apps regularly, I need more than just three at least. I use Skype to stay in regular touch with my workplace. WhatsApp keeps me connected to my family and friends. The ET [Economic Times] app sends regular alerts of business news, market updates and keep me posted on everything. I also have the TED app, to watch great videos of inspirational great talks. Finally, I also really depend on Evernote, which allows me to scribble my ideas on the move.
What is one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
Mediratta: My iPad Air.
What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
Mediratta: As we live in 24x7 world, I dream of a setup at my workplace and home that is AR [augmented reality] enabled - this would allow me to connect with my team and business associates, and would power e-meetings. This would also enable easy documentations, and facilitate fast access to data, to make better decisions. At the same time it would also enable me to connect face to face with my friends around the world.
How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Mediratta: Technology for me, over last decade or so has moved from an optional requirement to a necessity, both on the professional as well as personal front. At the same time, it helps me in extracting more value from life. From a Nokia phone in my college days, to a Blackberry phone in the early years of my career, to an iPhone now, my mobile has now become my window to almost everything related to work, and it also allows me to stay connected with my family, friends and network with people across the globe.
