The Banner Saga - a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) based around the Vikings - is finally making its way onto the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, game publisher Versus Evil announced on Wednesday.

Writing for the official PlayStation blog, community director for Versus Evil Lance James said the game would arrive on the PlayStation 4 in a month's time, on January 12. That makes it nearly two years after it landed on desktops in January 2014.

In regards to the delay, James cited the need to redesign "the user experience to better fit PS4 and DualShock 4". What they meant in short is adapting controls to the controller, as it had initially been developed in mind with the keyboard and mouse.

Also new are localisation features to the series, as The Banner Saga will now be available in French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian. and Italian. You should be able to pick up a copy or get it online next month, although there is no listing or pricing mentioned as of yet on PlayStation Store or Xbox Store.

The game came to life via Kickstarter, achieving its funding goal of $100,000 within a day. The project exceeded developer expectations and finished with $723,886, and first saw release on Windows and OS X through the game distribution network Steam.

Following that, it was ported for Android and iOS in October last year. Both versions of the game received much praise from critics, including three nominations at the BAFTAs.

The developers understand that the crowdfunded game went behind schedule, and James replied to multiple PlayStation Vita owners to assure them they had not been forgotten.

As for fans of the first game on PC, hold tight as The Banner Saga 2 is on its way.
