Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson has confirmed that the sequel to its popular video game title - Star Wars Battlefront - will feature a dedicated single-player campaign. Notably, the absence of single-player campaign in last entry in the Star Wars-based game series (released back in late 2015) was pointed out as a glaring omission by critics, including us.

While the Star Wars Battlefront was developed by DICE, the next game will be co-developed by DICE, Motive, and Criterion due to the magnitude of the game, Wilson said in EA's earnings call for third quarter fiscal 2017. The game is scheduled to arrive in the 2017 holiday season.

"Our next Star Wars Battlefront will be even bigger, taking players into more locations, and allowing them to play with more heroes and characters across multiple Star Wars eras. There will be new ways to play, including an all-new single-player campaign, and much, much more that we are excited to share with our players in the months ahead," he said.

Here's Why Star Wars Battlefront Does Not Have a Single-Player Campaign

In May last year, Executive Vice President of EA Studios Patrick Soderlund clarified that the decision to release the game without a single-player mode was a "conscious" one and was made in order to ensure that it was released around the same time as the movie-Star Wars: The Force Awakens to get the "strongest" possible impact. As there is no time-constraint this time around, there is no surprise that the company will be trying to go full-throttle.

Interestingly, the company also announced that BioWare, which has previously delivered titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, will be coming up with its new yet-to-be named title by the end of this year. "This game has the potential to fundamentally disrupt the way people think about an action title, bringing friends together to play in exhilarating new ways. We're very excited about the future of this new franchise and its ability to attract a large global audience," Wilson said.

Apart from these announcements, Wilson also announced that FIFA 18 will build in the foundations created with story mode this year while Madden NFL 18 will mark the transition of the franchise to Frostbite engine. Also, the company has announced that it will be coming up with new entries in its UFC and NHL series in fall this year.
