Sony PlayStation Now Service Gets Major UI Redesign

Sony, on Tuesday, updated the UI design of its PlayStation Now app on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) to make it easier to browse and pick games that you want to add to your subscription. The new major redesign is very close to the UI employed by Netflix - a service which provides movies and TV shows to subscribe.

The new UI design is said to be more streamlined than the previous one. PlayStation Now's interface is now divided into three parts: the landing page with the main grid view, game details page, and the launch screen. The landing page has three splits with the top one being featured games and recently added games below it. Dropping further down allows gamers to browse through game genres horizontally. The game details page is visually more appealing with huge artwork and blurred backgrounds overlaid with information about the game.

For the uninitiated, PlayStation Now app is a game streaming subscription service which gives gamers access to a library of PS3 games for a monthly fee of $19.99 (approximately Rs. 1,300). Gamers can also rent games individually, separate from the subscription service. However, one cannot rent games from the PlayStation Now app because Sony has moved individual game renting to the PS Store app. Please note that the PlayStation Now service is currently available only for the US owners of a PS4 and it is also available as a private beta for selected individuals in the UK.

Currently, PlayStation Now offers around 100 games and it would serve Sony well if the number increases, because at the recently concluded E3 2015 Microsoft announced backward compatibility on the Xbox One for Xbox 360 games.
