PUBG Xbox One Control Scheme Tuned by Gears of War 4 Developer: Microsoft

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is out now for the Xbox One and for a game in early access, it gets a lot right. In order to do so, Microsoft enlisted the help of Gears of War studio The Coalition to assist on the game’s development for the Xbox One.

“It’s been quite a journey for us,” PUBG Xbox One producer Nico Bihary said in conversation with Polygon. “There was this global assessment within Microsoft of how can we pair up with this super collaborative, super friendly and incredibly successful — in the short term — group for our partnership to deliver. As you can imagine, there were a lot of raised hands within Microsoft to offer support.

“PUBG is really getting the boutique, first-party, white-glove treatment from Microsoft.”

Specifically, The Coalition helped with “aiming and tuning the game’s controller systems,” Bihary stated.

With Microsoft’s own studio pitching in, it’s safe to say that PUBG won’t be hitting the PS4 anytime soon. In the past, the likes of Ark: Survival Evolved showed up on the PS4 almost a year after being on the Xbox One. It’s rare to see Microsoft use its own studio's time to aid in PUBG Xbox One development, which could in itself imply a longer than expected delay to a PS4 release date if at all.
