Though Sony is yet to officially confirm the existence of the PS4 Slim, that hasn't stopped some units from making out into the wild. One owner of the console has confirmed that it supports 5GHz Wi-Fi.

"The frequencies used by the wireless networking feature of this product are the 2.4GHz/5GHz ranges," reads the PS4 Slim manual posted by Twitter user shortman82.

"And for those asking. Yes the slim has B/G/N/AC wifi," he said in another tweet.

This is welcome news for gamers who prefer using Wi-Fi connectivity for gaming over a conventional, stable wired connection as it would result in better performance over the usual 2.4GHz band we've seen in the original PS4.

What this also means is, you can expect the PS4 Neo to support the 5GHz band as well. This is because Sony considers it to be the better specced complement to the existing PS4.

"PS4 is PS4, new high-end PS4 is still PS4 so you know the life-cycle is not going to be shorter," Yoshida said in an interview earlier in the year.

Filings with the FCC revealed that Sony was working on a new console, which at the time some assumed was a new PS Vita, but safe to say, it's the PS4 Slim.

Last week, we were treated to the first images of the PS4 Slim. The console sports an all matte finish, with Eject and Power buttons on the left. While it still maintains the rhombus shape, the sharp edges are now rounded.

Rubber grips which were present at the bottom of the PS4 are nowhere to be found on the PS4 Slim. The optical out port which was present on the original PS4 is missing too. This means specific headsets and other audio gear will probably not be compatible with the PS4 Slim. Surprisingly, it will be available in a 500GB capacity, which is on the lower side given most game sizes. This has a model number CUH-2016A.

There has been speculation on what to expect from Sony in addition to the PS4 Neo, for which the company finally announced an event on September 7. Although Sony has yet to confirm the existence of the PS4 Slim, we won't be surprised to see it making an appearance at the same event.

Sony's long-rumoured September PlayStation event, where the company is expected to launch a mid-cycle upgrade for the PS4 known as the PS4 Neo. The event is slated for September 7 at 3pm ET in New York City, which will be September 8 at 12:30am here in India. Incidentally, the Japanese electronics giant had also chosen NYC as the place to showcase the original PS4 back in 2013.
