The Playstation 4, the fourth iteration of Sony's popular gaming console, could be called Orbis, according to reports in gaming blog
Kotaku.
The blog does not confirm whether Orbis is the real name or a "codename" for the under-development Playstation 4. It also indicates that the Playstation 4 could be released in time for holiday season next year.
The Playstation 4 will reportedly feature an AMD x64 CPU and an AMD Southern Islands GPU. The GPU is reportedly capable of displaying Orbis games at a mind-boggling resolution of up to 4096x2160. It will also be capable of playing 3D games in Full HD.
According to the report, select developers have been receiving development kits for the Playstation 4 since the beginning of this year.
In what could be alarming news for end users, the Playstation 4 would no longer be backward compatible with Playstation 3 games. Further, it could end the market for used games by tying purchased games to specific PSN accounts.
