PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) Xbox One release date is December 12. It marks the debut of the game that pioneered the battle royale genre on consoles. However, if you were expecting it to run at a smooth 60 frames per second, think again.
"While I previously stated PUBG would run at higher FPS at XGP [Xbox Game Preview] launch on 12/12, I want to clarify that PUBG will run at 30fps across all Xbox One devices. We’re constantly refining the game and exploring options to increase frames per second, but this early in dev, we’re unable to confirm more," tweeted PUBG creator Brendan Greene.
This is at odds with Greene's previous statements regarding PUBG's Xbox One X frame rate.
“Definitely on Xbox One X, 60fps. On Xbox One, we’re not sure. We may have to limit it at 30fps, maybe, but the last time I saw it, it was running at about 30 to 40”, he told GamesTM magazine last month. “We’re still constantly improving it so, you know, the aim is to get to 60."
Despite touted to be the world's most powerful console, it doesn't bode well for the Xbox One X that it's unable to run PUBG at 60fps. Perhaps the concerns of its CPU being a mere 30 percent faster than the Xbox One has resulted in this. More likely however is developer Bluehole ensuring PUBG is playable on the Xbox One and Xbox One X in time for December 12 with frame rate not being the highest priority. With less than a week to go, it will be interesting to see how the console audience takes to a game that's been the PC's biggest draw in recent memory.
