Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Direct, its video presentations that talk about upcoming Nintendo games, for Wednesday, August 8 at 10am ET (7:30pm IST). The upcoming one will focus on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with new information revealed by game director Masahiro Sakurai.
First teased in March via a Nintendo Direct video and then properly unveiled at E3 2018 in June, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to be the fifth instalment in the long-running fighting franchise, and the first since Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in 2014.
At E3 2018, Nintendo announced that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would include every character from all past entries in the series, including the likes of Mario, Samus, Kirby, Bowser, Link, Donkey Kong, Fox, Falco, Marth, Zelda, Sheik, Villager, Mewtwo, Meta Knight, Sonic, Peach, Pikachu, Ice Climbers, Inkling, Captain Falcon, Zero Suit Samus, Ivysaur, Squirtle, Charizard, and Bowser Jr. among others.
Back in June, a press demo covered by Japanese video game magazine Famitsu and translated by gaming website Source Gaming, revealed that not every stage from the Super Smash Bros. history will make it to Ultimate, unlike the characters. "Not all past stages are going to be in the game but a whole lot of them will," the latter said.
And in mid-July, a listing on the Nintendo Japan eShop revealed that you’ll need at least 16GB of free space for the game. This would make Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the biggest Nintendo first-party game in terms of file size at launch and could be the second release after Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 on a 32GB Nintendo Switch cartridge seeing that a 16GB cartridge doesn't necessarily fit exactly 16GB of data.
