Microsoft is expected to launch the successor to Xbox 360 on May 21. As per the latest buzz this new gaming console may be called Xbox Infinity or, simply, Xbox, depending upon who you believe.

According to Slashgear, Twitter and Reddit users suggest that the next generation of Xbox will be dubbed Xbox Infinity. The chatter on the social platforms is accompanied by an alleged Xbox Infinity logo along with the tag line "Infinite entertainment. Infinite possibilities."

However, Forbes seems to suggest that users on Twitter have got it all wrong. As per the website, the next generation Xbox will be termed just Xbox. To substantiate their point, Forbes opines that the invite sent by Microsoft has mentioned only "Xbox".

Furthermore, Forbes also mentions that they have also sourced an image from their sources, which too points to the same name.

As per previous rumours, the next generation Xbox is expected to be dubbed Xbox 720 or Xbox HD. The specifications of this gaming console are expected to include an AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, a D3D11.x 800 MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. It is also expected to come with USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4a (which supports 3D over HDMI) Ethernet, audio return channels and 4K resolution.

It is also rumoured that the next-gen Xbox will accept HDMI input from your cable box, allowing the console to overlay a UI enabling additional features.

Microsoft has already sent out invites for its May 21 event at its main campus in Redmond, Washington at which Xbox team will reveal a "new generation" console.

As per the Industry tracker NPD Group, more than 70 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold worldwide since it was introduced in November 2005. In addition to that, Xbox 360 had been the top-selling console in the US for 20 consecutive months.
