Microsoft Unveils Upcoming Audio-Focused Update to Xbox One Console

Microsoft has previewed some new features in an upcoming Xbox One system update as a part of an early access programme for a few of its Xbox One users, hoping to use the feedback for any changes before rolling it out globally later this month as a full-version.

The early access Xbox One programme will be rolled-out this week and will focus more towards the console's audio settings for Snap apps, Kinect and more.

The latest Xbox One update would bring a new 'Sound mixer' feature that will enable users to control the audio levels of two applications which are being used in the Snap feature and determine which app's sound is louder. The same section would also let users control the Kinect voice chat volume. Both features would be accessible under the 'Settings' option.

Additionally, the users can opt-in to a speech collection data programme, an optional feature, providing voice samples to make the console responsive to more voice commands. One can find this feature under Settings > Privacy & Online Safety > Customizing privacy and online safety > Share Voice Data > Allow. "This is completely optional and all voice data shared via this setting will be used for product improvement only," states Major Nelson in the official Xbox blog post. Users can check for the system update under settings to install the latest update.

Microsoft updated its Xbox One console in April, enabling gamers to check the status of games saves; keep track of game and app updates; and view on-screen notifications. Kinect 2.0 has been also fine-tuned for quality and reliability of Xbox One commands.

Microsoft's rival in the console space, Sony, also rolled-out an update for its PlayStation 4 console last month, with a major video-editing feature. Other features included in the v1.70 update are the ability to sort trophies by rarity; alternate payment methods (APMs) including PayPal support when purchasing PS content from the store; more voice commands for the PlayStation Camera; and the sharing of favourite music via the 'Share' button from the PS4's DualShock 4 controller.
