The in-game currency in Fallout 76, called 'Atoms', can only be spent on cosmetic upgrades such as skins and outfits, Bethesda has revealed. Additionally, players on Xbox One will get 500 Atoms for free, due to Microsoft's long-standing partnership with Bethesda.

In an interview with Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb, Bethesda VP Pete Hines said that Fallout 76 would "throw Atoms [at players] all the time]" as rewards for completing in-game tasks, going from something as little as leaving the Vault, killing your first creature, or the first time you pick fruits or vegetables.

Atoms can also be bought with real money. Bethesda had previously revealed that players won't be able to use Atoms to buy special perk card packs.

Last week, Bethesda revealed that the Fallout 76 beta would be a 45GB download. The beta will give players access to the full game and let you carry over progress at launch.

If you are not aware, the Fallout 76 beta is limited to those who have pre-ordered the game, which means you can't decide to buy the game after experiencing the beta. You can always choose to cancel your pre-order, on the other hand.

The Fallout 76 beta will be available first on Xbox One starting October 23. The beta then moves onto PC and PS4 a week later on October 30.

The game won't have cross-platform play support though, even in the wake of Sony's policy reversal, which began with a beta for Fortnite.

Fallout 76 will release November 14.
