Asymmetrical multiplayer shooter Evolve has been out for awhile. It puts you in the claws of a giant bloodthirsty alien monster, or the boots of four hunters that are trying to take it down. We reviewed it on release and found it surprisingly fun despite its quirky progression system.
Made by Turtle Rock, the same studio behind Left4Dead and Left4Dead 2, it's seeing a similar level of support post-release as those games, at least in terms of content. The firm announced a new game mode for it this week.
Dubbed as Arena Mode, it's a free update that modifies the game's core formula of having players find and trap monsters. In this mode hunters and monsters have a single objective of taking down the opposition in a best of three match. Rather than starting from scratch, monsters start at the second stage of their evolution with slightly better stats and can switch abilities. Hunters on the other hand, are out of the round the moment they die.
It's an interesting take on the formula. Stripping it down to its bare essentials for greater accessibility. Will newcomers and veterans come back? Only time will tell. But for now, Arena Mode is a welcome addition to a game for the magic price of free. You can check out all the details of this new mode on the game's website.
