While Activision has stated that we won't be seeing a sequel to shared world shooter Destiny anytime soon, information on the next expansion to the game has found its way onto the Internet. As per a thread posted on Reddit which shows the expansion's marketing materials, it is called Rise of Iron. The poster depicts Lord Saladin from Destiny's Iron Banner Player versus Player mode.

According to Kotaku the Rise of Iron expansion will feature a new raid and be larger than the two downloadable content (DLC) packs that were released in its first year - The Dark Below and House of Wolves. Its raid will be based on one that was cut from House of Wolves. Rise of Iron was to be launched in April but then delayed.

With Rise of Iron taking Destiny 2's place this year, Kotaku also claims that Destiny 2 "was recently rebooted, with Taken King director Luke Smith taking the reins of that project in the wake of a Bungie staff reorganization."

This is possibly related to the departure of former Bungie president, Harold Ryan who left at the end of January. The last big update to Destiny was back in September 2015 in Destiny: The Taken King. With the next large expansion still some time away, it remains to be seen if Destiny players will stick around.

Furthermore, it will be interesting to see what else Bungie has in store for us after Rise of Iron and before Destiny 2. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out with E3 2016 a few weeks away.
