After its arrival on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles over seven years ago, publisher Sega and developer PlatinumGames have finally launched cult-classic hack-and-slash Bayonetta for Windows via Steam. Starting Wednesday, Bayonetta is available on Steam at Rs. 665 ($19.99 in the US). If you purchase before April 25, the Digital Deluxe Edition will be available at no extra cost, featuring five track soundtrack samplers and a digital artbook with concept art, wallpapers, and various avatars. The company is touting 60fps game and unlocked resolutions up to 4K UHD.
Sega had initially released Bayonetta in October 2009 in Japan, and European, Australian and North-American markets later. It is essentially a third-person action adventure game with an eponymous lead character an ancient witch capable of shapeshifting and employing various attacks using firearms. The titular character possesses magical abilities, wherein she can summon demons using her hair to fight against the enemies. The game's director is Hideki Kamiya, the genius behind popular games like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 2.
There have been two releases of Bayonetta so far in select markets. While Sega had high hopes with the game, Bayonetta failed to attract gamers on both Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms for some reason. It was so hard-hit that the company could not fund the sequel to this game. Luckily enough, Nintendo later came to the rescue with some capital and announced Bayonetta 2 exclusively for Wii U platform in September 2012. It was released two years later in 2014 with Nintendo's own Super Mario-like customisations to the game.
"The PC market is huge and can definitely not be ignored. We are absolutely aware of that, and we've always felt this way," a spokesperson for PlatinumGames told PC Gamer. "We've always had a positive stance towards porting our titles to PC, but the decisions as to which platforms we release our games on, and which platforms are the main focus for the games we make are largely made by the publishers, so this is not something we can decide on our own," he added.
