Much every big franchise, Batman's last generation adventures are getting a re-release on the PS4 and Xbox One as Batman: Return to Arkham. Publisher Warner Bros. confirmed this after many a leak. Unlike most remasters for consoles that are essentially ports of the PC version, both games in this bundle, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City will be entirely remade in the latest version of the Unreal Engine.
"Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Batman: Return to Arkham. The new title bundles Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, two of the most critically acclaimed video games on the last generation of gaming consoles. Both are being remastered for PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One using Unreal Engine 4, a first for the award winning Batman: Arkham series," a press release from the publisher reads. It goes on to claim that Batman: Return to Arkham will have "improved graphics, as well as upgraded models, environments, lighting, effects and shaders."
What this means is, there's a good possibility that Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City could sport better performance on the PS4 and Xbox One over their PC counterparts due to the use of a new engine. No PC version has been announced. It should not come as a surprise considering how poorly Batman Arkham Knight performed on PC.
Batman: Return to Arkham is being remastered by Virtuos, the same studio behind Final Fantasy X and X-2 remakes. It will include all bonuses from Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City's Game of the Year editions and all downloadable content from both games. It will be available from July 26 for $49.99 in the US and £39.99 in the UK. In India you can expect it to be priced between Rs. 2,499 and 2,999, which is how Warner Bros' distributor E-xpress has priced its remasters in the past.
