Cricket fans have a premium console-grade game to look forward to this winter. Australia-based Big Ant Studio, the developer of games such as Don Bradman Cricket 17, is going to release a game called Ashes Cricket for PS4, PC, and Xbox One on November 16, 2017.
The game has been named after The Ashes, which is a Test cricket (five-day matches) tournament between England and Australia. It is one of the most hotly contested Test cricket series in the world.
In case you’re wondering what’s so special about this cricket series, The Ashes got its name in the year 1882, when Australia defeated England at The Oval ground in London and a British newspaper published a satirical obituary of English cricket. It said the body of English cricket will be cremated and taken to Australia.
Ashes Cricket’s release date is exactly one week before the 2017-18 Ashes series begins on November 23 in Brisbane, Australia. That means the developers have got the timing of the release spot on. While Don Bradman Cricket 17 definitely has its flaws, it is a complex cricket game that takes hours to master. It’s fair to say that we can expect more of the same from Ashes Cricket and hopefully this game will fix the AI issues that plagued Don Bradman Cricket 17.
Big Ant Studio has promised “photo-realistic players of the English and Australian teams for both the men’s and women’s squads”. The game will also feature licensed stadiums where all of these matches are going to take place.
The game also features a career mode where you can “take a fresh, ambitious young player, and lead him or her through the ranks with the goal of eventually representing their nation in the Ashes itself”. This sounds interesting to us, but it remains to be seen whether Big Ant’s implementation of this idea will win players over.
As of now, there are no pricing details for Ashes Cricket, but we can expect it to be priced similarly — Rs. 3,999. At the moment the game doesn’t have a distributor in India but that doesn’t stop anyone from buying it digitally when it launches.
