The Curse of the Weeping Woman is the sixth instalment in Conjuring Universe set in 1973’s Los Angeles. It dwells on the popular Mexican folklore of La Llorona, a wailing spirit who roams around the waterfronts mourning the loss of her children, whom she had drowned in a blind fit of rage. The film focuses on a nuclear family of three that falls prey to this troubling ghost. The plot begins with Anna Tate-Garcia (Linda Cardellini), a social worker finding two children locked behind the doors during a welfare check. The kids as well as their mother Patricia (Patricia Velasquez) resist her offer to rescue to ensure their safety from La Llorona. When Anna continues with her job and shifts the kids to a shelter house, they are found drowned on the riverside soon after. Patricia blames Anna for the loss of her children and claims that she has requested to return her kids and take Chris (Roman Christou) and Sam (Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen) – Anna’s kids instead. This kickstarts a horrifying series of paranormal experiences in the family. When recurrent burn marks and the spirit’s attempts to drown the kids continues, Anna seeks the help of former priest Rafael Olvera who has now become a folk shaman and practices mysticism to keep evil at bay.
