Bhola (Sunil Dutt) is a naïve young man who lives with his maternal uncle Kunwar Pratap Singh (Om Prakash) and plans on following celibacy his entire life.
When Singh tries to convince him for marriage, Bhola leaves furiously and moves in with his aunt.
However, Bhola is instantly smitten by Bindu (Saira Banu), his neighbour next door, and decides to break his vow of celibacy.
However, the damsel already fancies her South Indian music teacher Master Pillai (Mehmood).
Bhola’s friends from musical theatre, especially Vidyapati (Kishore Kumar), decide to help him woo Bindu — kickstarting a riot of musical laughs.
The comedy-drama was very well received by both critics as well as the audience at the time of its release.
