With the second season of Jessica Jones around the corner – it premieres March 8 – Netflix has seen fit to release a second trailer for the Marvel superhero series. The first trailer, which arrived earlier this month, told us that the hard-drinking private investigator (Krysten Ritter) wasn't doing great, and the new trailer dives further into her troubles.
The new Jessica Jones season 2 trailer opens with Jones bouncing a ball, at an anger management session. "My whole family was killed in a car accident", she explains, repeating lines from the first trailer, but this time with context. "Someone did horrific experiments on me. I was abducted, raped, and forced to kill someone."
At this points, the anger builds up in her until she can no longer control it. "And I'm in here bouncing a goddamn ball," she adds in frustration, throwing it with such power as she finishes that the ball chips paint off the wall, visibly shocking everyone in the room.
So when later, her neighbour and forced-colleague Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse) asks how the session went, she replies in the most Jones way possible: "Still angry," after taking out a newly-purchased bottle of whiskey from a plastic bag.
Even though it's a trailer for the new season, it includes multiple shots from the show's critically-acclaimed first year, which still stands as the best season for all Marvel-Netflix series to date. It'll be helpful for those who have never seen the show, and a reminder for everyone else, considering Jessica Jones has been off air for more than two years.
That's why it's hard to tell if any shots of Luke Cage (Mike Colter) are indeed from the second season, or whether merely lifted from the first. His line: "Jessica Jones, you are a hard drinking, short-fused, mess of a woman" is from the first season, if you're wondering. It even appeared in the trailer for season 1.
Despite all the footage-repetition, the new trailer is cut much better than the previous one, which was a bit all over the place, and gives a much better sense of what state the character is in. And it closes with a brilliant line from our protagonist too: "I always deal with threats head on. Meaning I punch them in the head until they're unconscious."
You can catch more of Jones' abrasive personality when the full season drops March 8 on Netflix.
