Captain Marvel has added another female star to its ranks. Gemma Chan – best known for her role as the synthetic Anita/ Mia in AMC-Channel 4's sci-fi drama Humans – has been cast as Minn-Erva in the Marvel superhero film, according to multiple reports. As per the comics, Minn-Erva aka Doctor Minerva is a Kree geneticist and spy, who was an enemy of rogue Kree agent Captain Mar-Vell, who's being played by Jude Law.
Deadline first reported on Chan's casting in Captain Marvel, and The Hollywood Reporter later confirmed the news. There are no further details on her role, and plot details are still being kept under wraps on Captain Marvel, which stars Oscar-winner Brie Larson in the lead role. She plays a US Air Force pilot called Carol Danvers, whose DNA is fused with an alien during an accident, giving her superhuman powers.
Chan reacted to the news on Twitter, saying: "Very excited to be joining the MCU 💪🏼 #CaptainMarvel". Larson responded a few hours later, quoting Chan's tweet and added: "The sisterhood is expanding! Congrats @Gemma_Chan1 💫🌈💪"

Captain Marvel also stars Samuel L. Jackson, reprising his role of Nick Fury without an eye patch, since the film is set in the 1990s when he was still just a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One), DeWanda Wise (She's Gotta Have It), and Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim, Warcraft) are also part of the movie.
Filming began in January on Captain Marvel, the first female-led Marvel film, and is expected to last until May, minus any potential reshoots. Captain Marvel is slated to release on March 8, 2019 worldwide.
