About Ice Age Movie (2002)

It’s the pre-historic era — about 20,000 years ago. All the animals are retreating southwards to avoid the doom of the impending ice age.

Sid (John Leguizamo), a friendly ground sloth, has just been saved from the rhinos (Brontotheres) by a sarcastic woolly mammoth Manfred (Ray Romano) who is least interested in the migrating charade.

The two soon stumble across a human baby, stranded from its tribe. Upon Sid’s insistence, they decide to take the baby safely to human settlement — even though the humans have been making weapons to hunt other species.

Sid and Manny are joined by a sabertooth tiger (Smilodon) called Diego (Denis Leary) who is actually on a hunt for the baby. To put it in simple words, this unusual troop could easily be each other’s hot dinner.

A parallel story arc involves Scrat (Chris Wedge), a saber-toothed squirrel (Cronopio) who is desperately searching for a safe space to store his acorn for the winters — hilariously failing at each step.

Ice Age is the first movie of the Ice Age franchise. The film also marks the debut of director Chris Wedge, as well as Blue Sky Studios.
