In 1977, George Lucas ushered us into a galaxy far, far away with the first Star Wars movie — retroactively subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope four years later. With that renaming, Lucas delivered his grand vision for the franchise. That consisted of an original trilogy ending with Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in the eighties, before Lucas picked it up near the turn of the millennium and directed a prequel trilogy comprised of Episodes I through III.
In 2012, Lucas sold Star Wars off, handing over the rights to Disney. The American entertainment giant has since expanded the galaxy across film and TV, including a sequel trilogy made up of Episodes VII through IX that brought an end to the Skywalker Saga, standalone films that may or may not tie into the bigger picture (from Rogue One to Rogue Squadron), and ongoing series (The Mandalorian and Andor among others) via Disney+
