Based on true incidents, set during December 1992 – January 1993.
Shekar (Arvind Swamy) is a Hindu boy and Shaila (Manisha Koirala) is a Muslim girl — they both fall in love in their village.
The duo elope, get married, and have twin sons. While Shekar is working as a news reporter, Shaila is at home, looking after the house. She has raised both sons with the ideology to appreciate both of their families' faiths and cultures.
When their families decide to bury their past and reconcile, the unexpected happens. Hindu-Muslim riots erupt in Bombay soon after the demolition of Babri Masjid which separates the family.
Their respective parents set their differences aside to save their children and their grandchildren.
