About 1232 Kms Movie (2021)

1232 Kms is a documentary that follows seven labourers from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad region who left for Bihar's Saharsa village on bicycles after a month of being unemployed during the nationwide lockdown in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aforementioned bicycles have also been reported to have been bought by the workers especially for this travel, with whatever little money they could manage or borrow.

The documentary touches upon their struggles throughout the eight-day-long journey including uncertainty of the next meal, paralyzing fatigue, personal losses, no sight of bicycle repairmen on the way, unwillingness of the strangers to help, and a gripping fear of being caught and beaten up by authorities.

It further throws light on what follows the completion of this perilous travel: a mandatory quarantine in a worn-down centre with no food in place.

1232 Kms has been shot solely by Vinod Kapri and his assistant, sans a professional crew. It has also incorporated musical notes by noted lyricist Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj.
