  • A contender for top Chromebook in the field
James Beswick (Mar 16, 2015) on Amazon
I've been a vocal critic of Dell's declining build quality over the last few years with their trend towards producing plastic, cheaply made clone-boxes brimming with bloatware and filled with subpar hardware. Naturally I was curious to see what Dell's contribution to the Chromebook space looked like since I'm a major proponent of the platform, and I'm delighted to report it's a major departure from the Dell PC experience. This Chromebook is priced in the middle of the Chromebook field but has a substantial, solid feel without being noticeably any heavier that the Samsung equivalent. The rubber edges give it a slightly industrial, indestructible feel that lets it grip glass tables though the plastic casing has a tendency to pick up fingerprints easily. It looks like a small PC laptop (the Samsungs are easy to mistake for MacBooks) but it's discreet enough to throw into practically any bag.I love my Samsung Chromebook 2, the flagship of these devices, and it's great to watch the Dell perform equally well, chugging away with 2GB of RAM like there are no limits at all. Great screen, reasonable video, and a keyboard that's a joy to use, it starts in 1-2 seconds and lasts all day. If there were a photo finish in the race of the two devices, it might be that the mouse pad on the Samsung has a slight advantage and the silver casing is arguably more aesthetically pleasing, but against that you can take the Dell into a business meeting and it looks like a real computer. If you've not tried the Chromebook experience and you live in the Google-verse and operate in a browser 95% of the time, you'll find these little laptops a breath of fresh air. They're cheap, secure, brainless to use, self-maintaining and smartly designed. They don't work for heavy client application uses and are missing certain apps such as Skype but there are replacements and workarounds for almost everything, especially if you're technically minded. If you're caught between which device to purchase, while I'm still most loyal to my Samsung, the Dell is a real contender and you can't go far wrong with either, especially at this price point.

  • Nice Intel based Chromebook - more rugged than others in its class
Lon J. Seidman (Mar 13, 2015) on Amazon
Dell has a new 11.6" Chromebook out that is focused on education. It has a rugged design that includes a rubber bumper around the edges of both the base and screen as well as a sealed keyboard to prevent damage from spills. The screen tilts all the way back - a full 180 degrees. This prevents it from accidentally being snapped off.Performance is on par with other devices powered by the Intel Celeron N2840 processor. Adequate for most web browsing and light computing tasks.I've noticed that Google has optimized performance with ChromeOS which now allows this device to perform as fast as Windows devices with the same processor.Battery life is good and likely will last all day provided the user is mostly web browsing and word processing. Online games, script heavy sites, and video playback will impact overall battery performance.Overall? This is a solid Chromebook that performs as well as the others in its class but it's slightly overpriced. This one is about $50 more expensive than devices running with the same hardware - including many Windows PCs. The investment might be worth it if the target user is a young child as the rugged build might allow it to survive a bit longer.

  • Good investment.
Nghia (Jul 23, 2015) on Amazon
One of the best $200 spent on a computer. It's just a good and fast as a tablet but you actually have USB ports and it acts like a PC.

  • I love this Chromebook.
Tech Buyer (Jul 23, 2015) on Amazon
I love this Chromebook. The only complaint is video quality when connecting to HDMI, but hey this was only a $200 Chromebook. Exceeds expectation.
