My husband and I researched air purifiers and selected the Coway as best meeting our needs. We wanted an air purifier that met expectations but did not bust the bank. This particular air purifier works perfectly in our bedroom. During the night, we run it on setting one or two and during the day, we run it on Eco. As recommended, I have cleaned the filters every two weeks ( not the HEPA). I am amazed at what gets trapped in the filters. The filters are easy to access and easy to clean. The fan is quite quiet and we hardly know it is operating. I would highly recommend this air purifier, especially for people with allergies.

#2 Ranked Air Purifier in 2014
Marlene Moleon (Feb 10, 2014)

No.1 Air Purifier in 2014 is Alen BreatheSmart but is out of my budget ($600).I researched air purifiers and I almost go for Winix Freshome. CADR Scores (Clean Air Delivery Rate): 298 / 291 / 343 (Dust / Smoke / Pollen) but the the ionizer is a health risk for sensitive users, and without the ionizer is not so good. What is the point?I love the design in my Coway (easy to clean and easy to change filters). Quiet except on the highest level. The Coway offers excellent filtration without consuming much energy. I notice the difference immediately.I am going to buy a second unit.

By far one of the best features of this unit is its air quality sensor. It immediately senses when I've done something to kick up a lot of dust in the room (fluffing comforters, etc). and lets me know that it is doing its job.The unit is quiet when the air is clean - it gets a little louder when it detects a lot of contaminants, but it is usually very temporary.

Fantastic little machine bests its competitors
Actual Reviewer (Sep 5, 2014)
on Amazon
I'm actually astounded by the satisfaction I have with this air filter. It's not from a relatively well-known company, nor is it priced up with its competitors. After searching around various review sites which directly compare specifics (such as airflow, noise rating, price per filter, etc), this one came out on top in most of the categories, but I was still skeptical. After months of use now, I can say that there's really not much to complain about. The system is whisper-quiet (literally), moves a tremendous amount of air, and sings a little tune when you turn it off or on (much to my delight). The interface is quite simple to use, and the air quality indicator actually does something (it's not a gimmick).I have but three suggestions which I'd like to see implemented:1) Some sort of non-slip rubber pads for the bottom: My unit sits atop a glass and wood table, and it makes a sound and vibration akin to nails on a chalkboard when you move it.2) The hamster cage-style fan wobbles a bit (not too much to be a concern, but enough that you know perhaps the fan is cheap).3) The logo is a bit bland, and the design could be a bit more stylish. It's well-built, but it looks like something from a few years ago.Other than that, this system is a must-have for people looking for a quiet, powerful, actually HEPA-quality air filter!

large device and moves a lot of air

I'm an indoor allergy suffer, and this purifier is amazing. After running this in my bedroom with the door closed for a few hours I could tell the air was cleaner. The odd, untraceable odor in my new apartment was gone. If I leave this off all day, I can come home and smell the odor again, but after a couple of hours of running this purifier it's gone again. Well worth the money. It's large, and the fan moves a lot of air. The ECO mode is great, it will shut off until it detects dirty air, then turn back on again for a while. Top panel controls are easy to understand and use. Front panel and filters are easy to remove and replace.

The positive reviews I read before buying this were accurate. It is quiet on low, makes more noise when it kicks up to medium or high. I keep it on "Eco" mode since my air seems to be cleaner than I expected it to be. The fan is either in off or low most of the time and it goes up to medium or high occasionally as it senses - whatever. Not sure what it's sensing, but apparently the air isn't as clean as it should be in those moments. I bought this purifier because I thought I might have mold in my house. But if I do, the air purifier doesn't sense it and everything I read says it would. It mostly seems to filter out pet hair, although it is probably filtering out other stuff too on the finer filters.

Pros:LightStylishPowerfulIntuitiveCheap filter replacementFilters pretty much everythingCreates great airflowCons:Can be loud at highest settingOnly blows upwards (so can't be used as a fan)Black color may not be for everyoneKind of big and oddly shaped, so you can't really hide itNot indestructibleThis is a high quality air purifier that is not bad on the wallet. The best thing about it, is that the filter replacements aren't crazy expensive. There are cheaper alternatives out there but you get what you pay for. It will clear the air in a decent size room in no time. The ionizer works great. This thing is light and stable but can get in the way. It can get loud but only at its highest setting. It only blows up so can't really be used as a fan, but it does get the air flow going in your room. I notice a greater quality of life since getting this product and I am extremely happy with it.

Gets the bacon smell out in about an hour
Penfist (Oct 14, 2014)
on Amazon
One bedroom apartment. Kitchen is connected to everything. No external fan. While air quality in my ZIP code is good, the overpowering scents coming from the kitchen used to linger for days. No longer. This unit kicks into overdrive a few minutes after the bacon starts sizzling (or onions, or whatever other stinky thing is getting cooked). The little light changes from blue (good air quality) to purple and then red. The fan starts whirring and the unit starts scrubbing. The unit isn't overwhelmingly loud when it is cleaning the air but you can hear it.Within an hour the bacon smell is noticeably dissipated. This thing also keeps the dog dander in the apartment noticeably lower which helps my sinuses. I am very pleased with that particular feature. If I have any complaints they are minor. The product looks more like a subwoofer than an air filter.

Well designed, functions quite nicely, pleasant appearance
Dr. Stuart Gitlow (Oct 12, 2014)

This is a nice looking and well designed air purifier that I plugged in for our kitchen. It has a dual filter system that will cost about $50/year to maintain with two replacements per year of the pre filter and one per year of the HEPA filter. Installation is straightforward and took only a few minutes. There is no smell of ozone with the ionizer on, though you have the option of leaving that off. The unit provides LED feedback as to the level of contaminants in the air, and in the automatic mode the unit turns off after 30 minutes of clear air to save energy. You also have the choice of leaving the fan speed at a set level. The highest level fan speed is quite noisy (though it does its work quickly) and the lower fan speeds have negligible noise levels, particularly at the lowest speed. The unit is well constructed with a contemporary appearance, looking something like a high-tech loudspeaker rather than an air purifier. A molded hand-hold would have been a nice addition to the outer framework, but overall the unit is light enough to be carried about. There is no remote control as with some other air purifiers on the market.

Wasn't really sure what to make of this Air Purifier - do these really work? - but thought it was worth a try. In our home, the issue isn't really "pollution" its specifically pollen, dog dander and probably mildew. My wife and I in particular suffer frequently from sinus infections and the like which we attribute to those conditions. Its hard to know for sure if this unit is going to save us from all of it, but so far I'm impressed. After a week of use there is a noticeable amount of "stuff" on the filter. Our bedroom where this is running smells a bit better too.As for the unit itself, I like how light it is. The box was big and gave the impression of being heavier, but this is slimmer and more lightweight than I had imagined. Most people should be able to move it easily from room to room as needed. I like the power options. Users can choose to run this at full blast if they want or allow the purifier to judge for itself what speed it needs to run in "economy" mode. "Economy" mode promises to be more energy efficient and friendly. There is also a pollution indicator light which changes color based on how pure the air detected is.The unit is surprisingly quiet too. Even at its highest setting, it doesn't create much noise. In "ECO" mode which I'm using you really have to be standing right next to it and listen closely to hear the fan running. Very nice. You can see from the photos too that this purifier actually looks pretty nice and sleek. Almost like a subwoofer or something rather than having a large industrial vacuum in your room.Anyway, so far I'm very satisfied, impressed and have no complaints so I'm giving this Coway Air Purifier five stars.

I have had a Living Air box for about 10 years now and decided to try out the Conway and compare. This Conway is very modern and sleek. It is also very large. I realize it says "compact" but it's bigger than I imagined it would be. (16x16 and 10 deep) That said, it is probably the most quiet filter I've ever had. On settings economy and one-- there is virtually NO noise. None. As you go up, the noise gets a bit louder but no more than a normal fan setting. The controls are very fun because they make musical sounds! There is also an Ion control for the machine and a great timer so it will automatically turn off. The filter system needs 1 HEPA filter (replace once a year) and 2 carbon filters (replaced every 6 months). These are $49 for the pack. So far, my home is smelling fresh and odor free. Nice machine!

Looks like a giant iPod Nano, works like an awesome air purifier.
Betty Edit (Oct 5, 2014)

It is beautiful. It's quiet. It requires minimal maintenance. It works well. What else do you really need to know? When you turn it on, it plays an ascending 5-note phrase, and when you turn it off, it plays a descending 5-note phrase. This makes me smile: my air purifier sings to me.There are tons of options on this machine: eco mode, automatic, ion purifier, etc. You can change the sensitivity of the air sensor, to make it more sensitive or less sensitive. The instructions are clear and easy to read. There's even a handle(-ish) spot on the back to carry it (it's not a very good grip if you have wet hands or are sweaty, but it works fine to carry the unit from room to room). All in all, I'm glad I spent the extra money for an air purifier that both looks nice and works well. Most purifiers are just so darn ugly. This is a joy to behold. I've had my unit several months now, and have had no problems with it. I'd recommend this unit to anyone. The only negative I can think of is that the highest level setting is significantly louder than the other two (which I can't even really hear), but it's not distracting. I look forward to many years of service from my Coway air purifier.

This air purifier does a good job! We are sleeping better; cooking odors clear the house more quickly; it works better than the Oreck did. Additionally, we will have a new grandson in April, and our house is 25 years old. I feel better about the quality of the air he will breathe while he is at our home.

Coway is the best in air purifiers by far!! Korean designed - leaders in field
Stephen P. Johnson (Jan 5, 2015)

This purifier really works great!! The South Koreans who designed these and are this brand are recognized as the leaders in this field (after researching this): this unit proves it with 4 dogs, my family with allergies - all now doing much better in their rooms!! While these are now being made in China, they are still designed in South Korea. Most other brands (including the American brands) are Chinese designs and I haven't found them to be anywhere close to effective as the Coway units!! They are easy to operate, low noise (even the highest setting is nowhere near as loud as others may claim in other reviews I have read) and the Auto function cycles between all 3 settings/levels/speeds to keep the room air clean. The blue/purple/red air quality indicator shows you what's going on. For example, when a dog hangs out in the room, it reacts quickly!! We keep the Ion setting on, although I don't have a way to really "know" how that feature is helping. This unit also effectively covers rooms in our home up to.about 350 sq. ft. We have 1 for each bedroom and 1 in our family room/den. Highly recommend!!

As someone who has had asthma all of her life, having an air purifier in the house is just something that is a constant. Because we live in a rural area, on a gravel road and use wood to heat with, particulate matter, pollens, dust, etc. in the air is always a concern. The Coway Mighty Aiir Purifier with True HEPA and Eco Mode is a fairly large unit and it mores a great deal of air and filters the air in the house beautifully. I have noticed a real difference when I have this unit on and when I don't. and that can make all the difference as to whether not I or even my family is comfortable during pollen season, for example. The unit is big, it is about the size of a stereo speaker or a CPU on a computer. It looks ultra chic and modern, but doesn't appear out of place in our traditional log home. The only thing you notice is the comfort and quality of the air when using it.When unpacking this unit, be sure to take off the protective plastic on the filters before using. Optimally, the filter will need replacement approximately once a year. I have not been using it nearly that long, but I see no decrease in the amount of air that is filtered or the quality of performance.

Just got this today. Make sure you remove the plastic off the filters before use. I completely forgot about it. I bought the black one a few years ago for my mom's house. The white is beautiful! I'm living in an apartment now and my downstairs neighbors are smokers. I can smell the smoke in my apartment every time they light up. I'm hoping this will help as I'm very concerned with the second hand smoking effects on my myself and my two young toddlers. I also bought air purifying plants. Plus I always keep the kitchen window slightly cracked to let fresh air in. Never had any issues with the black one. I turn it on high on the 4 hour setting every night before we go to sleep. It's a wonderful product and definitely does the job!

I have had the air purifier for a little over a month and I am completely satisfied!!! The unit is relatively compact and quiet most of the time. We have it on Eco mode all day and the only time it kicks up to full blast is if we are cooking/frying food in the kitchen or have our front door open.I highly recommend the product!
