Sony Japan has listed the product online, with an April 4 release date; first spotted by Xperia Blog. The SPA-TA1 tablet attachment will be launched at a suggested price of 3,675 yen, which translates to roughly Rs. 2,200.
For now, Sony has not revealed anything about the availability of the SPA-TA1 tablet attachment outside Japan. According to the site, the SPA-TA1 tablet attachment will be compatible with devices between 85mm and 190mm width (previously, the maximum width supported by the lens-style cameras 75mm) and will weigh 31 grams.
Until now, tablets are not regarded as first choice for photography for many, though this set paradigm might change with the unveiling of the Sony SPA-TA1 tablet attachment for the Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 and the DSC-QX10 lens-style cameras.
Sony had launched its lens-style cameras, the Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 and the DSC-QX10 in India for Rs. 24,990 and Rs. 12,990 respectively in September last year.
The lenses can be attached to smartphones and tablets for an enhanced imaging experience or be used independently. The lens cameras lack a viewfinder but can be attached to smart devices and paired with them through Wi-Fi or NFC, following which photos and videos can be shot with the help of Sony's PlayMemories app, which is available for both iOS and Android converting the device's screen into a real-time viewfinder.
They can also be operated as completely independent cameras if desired, as both the DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10 cameras have a shutter release button, a memory card slot and both come with a rechargeable battery.
The Cyber-shot QX100 camera features a 1.0-inch, 20.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, identical to the sensor found in the acclaimed Cyber-shot RX100 II camera. The Cyber-shot DSC-QX10 camera boasts an 18.2 effective megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and 10x optical zoom Sony G Lens.
