Nikon's flagship DSLR, the Nikon D4, has marked its entry in India. The camera was one of the three cameras unveiled by Nikon in India at a press event in Delhi on Wednesday, with the Nikon D800 and Nikon D800E being the other two.

The Nikon D4 succeeds the popular Nikon D3S and introduces a number of improvements including a 16.2 megapixel sensor, improved auto-focus and metering sensors and the ability to shoot at an extended ISO speed of 204,800.

The India launch of the D4 comes hot on the heels of the global announcement, with the camera still listed as 'available for pre-order' on Amazon US.

The key features of the camera are:

  • Newly developed Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor with 16.2 effective megapixels
  • Advanced Scene Recognition System with enhanced accuracy realized by 91K-pixel RGB sensor
  • Multi-area mode Full HD D-Movie that enables a variety of expressions in three formats
  • Further improved high-speed, multifunctional, high-performance image-processing engine EXPEED 3
  • 51-point AF system with enhanced performance in subject acquisition and focusing in low-light situations

The D4 is now available at Rs. 3,24,950, which seems a pretty competitive pricing given the INR-USD exchange rate and the US retail price of $6000.
